Daenerys Targaryen, eat your heart out.

Ok, they aren’t strictly packed full of medieval hairstyles, but we blame Game of Thrones, Vikings and British dramas like Merlin for the meteoric rise of ancient and medieval ‘dos on Instagram. But these hairstyles aren’t just for Comic Con or Halloween (although they do make for brilliant choices for both events!). In fact, they can also provide for the perfect #hairspiration for weddings and formal soirees. Yes, really.

Want to know how create beautiful medieval hairstyles to make even The White Queen majorly jel? Scroll down to discover our 4 top tips on how to rock GoT-worthy ‘dos now.

How to rock medieval hairstyles: Our top  4 tips

1. Find your medieval hair mate

Before you think about creating your medieval hairstyles, do some research and gather images (or in our case, watch Netflix/Amazon Prime) for inspiration. And if you aren’t already a fan of Game of Thrones (and why aren’t you?) get watching now. Trust us, Sophie Turner’s hair alone makes it a worthwhile watch. Credit: @lisiiii18

2. Make braids your BFF

It doesn’t matter if you can only do a classic three-strand braid or if you’re a plaiting pro. To nail medieval hairstyles, you must come to terms with the fact that braids will most likely form a part of your ‘do. So, whether you’re partial to a fishtail braid, a French plait or a Dutch braid, you’d better start looking for #braidspiration, like, yesterday! Credit: @sj_hair

3. The longer your hair, the better (sorry short-haired ladies!)

It’s all about long, lengthy locks. And when we say long, we mean long. Medieval ladies weren’t in the business of cutting their tresses, so Rapunzel-like hair is a signature look for ancient and medieval hairstyles. But don’t give up hope just yet if you’re currently rocking a trendy bob. If you aren’t gifted in the length department, try clip-ins or extensions to help create your Cersei Lannister-like ‘do.

4. But if you have short hair, updos are also ok

Like we said, don’t worry if you don’t have long hair. You can still create equally gorgeous medieval hairstyles with shorter tresses. Just try and rock a pretty updo with beautiful braids or use cleverly-placed extensions! Easy-peasy! Credit: @medievalbraids

Editor’s tip: Set your medieval hairstyle with a generous spray of hairspray to help your ‘do last from dusk ’til dawn. We love the TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hairspray. It’s a fast-drying hairspray, which will help give your hairstyle loads of hold and shine, not to mention protect your tresses from frizz and flyaways, too. #Winning.
