Mini Marley shows us how to curl natural hair
Prep your hair.
Before you start styling your 1930s updo, prep your hair by washing it with the Dove Advanced Hair Series Pure Care Dry Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. This will help to nourish any dry and damaged ends, and make your hair appear more healthy.
Section and blow-dry your hair.
Part your hair.
For this glamorous ’30s-inspired updo, you’ll want to create a deep side parting using a comb.
Curl your hair.
Now it’s time to learn how to curl natural hair! First, you’ll want to section your hair into 1-2 inch wide portions, before wrapping each section of hair around a curling wand or tong, and holding it in place until it has fully curled. Then, release your curl and pin it to your head using a sectioning clip.
Let your curls cool.
After you’ve curled and pinned all of your hair, allow it to cool. Then unpin each curl to reveal gorgeous, vintage waves! If you find that your curls are too tight, you can use your fingers to gently loosen them, and make them appear more natural.
Pin your curls back.
Now pull your curls back to the lower part of your head, and pin them in place just above the nape of your neck. Then, move onto the front section: style this piece of your hair into a ’30s-inspired wavy fringe, and pin it into place to hold the shape.
Create a bun.
Now that you’ve pinned all of your curls back, fashion the bottom section into a bun shape, by gathering your curls together and using bobby pins to secure them into your updo position.
Final look: Set with spray.
For the final finishing touches, spritz your vintage ‘do with the TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hairspray, and add a glitzy hair clip to either side of your look. Now, go forth and show off your glimmering, sultry updo!
