Because there’s no such thing as too much glitter.
Want to jump on the festival hair bandwagon? Then you need to try out glitter roots. This sparkly hair trend has been taking the social media world by storm, and festival-goers around the globe have been seen sporting this magical hairstyle throughout summer.
Not only will it elevate your festival style ten-fold, but it’ll also help camouflage any pesky regrowth (bonus!). And it’s not only Instagrammers who’ve taken a liking to the trend; A-list celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Rita Ora and Kylie Jenner have all been seen sporting glitter roots, too. Well, if they can pull it off, so can you!
The way you style your glitter roots is completely up to you, so go as bold or as subtle as you like, plus, you can opt for any colour under the sun (and trust us, there’s loads). Want to learn how to rock glitter roots? Just keep reading below for our step-by-step guide on how to get the look.
Glitter roots: A step-by-step guide
To rock this trend, you’ll need:
- Fine glitter in a colour of your choice
- Glitter with thicker specs in a colour of your choice
- A comb
- VO5 Classic Styling Mega Hold Gel Spray (£2.99*)
- Toni&Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray (£7.49*)
STEP 1: Start with clean hair which has been brushed through to remove any knots and tangles. Then, neatly part your hair into either a centre or side parting – whichever you prefer!
STEP 2: Spray some VO5 Classic Styling Mega Hold Gel Spray on your parting, then use a comb to evenly distribute the gel.
STEP 3: Take some of the fine glitter (which can be purchased from your local arts and crafts store) and carefully sprinkle it all over your parting. Note that this step can get messy, so we recommend applying the glitter over a sink or old towel.
After you’ve sprinkled some over your hair, use your fingers to gently pat the glitter into the gel and distribute it so that it covers all of the hair near your parting. Depending on the look you’re after, you can add as much or as little glitter as you like.
STEP 4: For added va-va-voom, sprinkle some thicker specs of glitter on top of your glitter roots. This second layer of glitter can be a complementary or contrasting colour to the glitter underneath, or it can be shaped glitter specs, like stars or hearts. If you’re after a colour that matches everything, opt for an iridescent silver shade, like in the picture above.
STEP 5: Set your glitter roots in place by spritzing your mane with some Toni&Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray, et voila: festival-perfect hair is all yours!
Tip: To get the full effect, why not opt for matching glitter eyeshadow? You’ll look bang on trend!
