Dark skin tones

If you have a dark skin tone, then you’ll be pleased to hear that you’ll suit almost every shade of ombre highlights, including deep reds, as well as shades of bright caramel and ash blonde. Why, you ask? Well, because the deeper the shade, the more blended and natural-looking your ombre highlights will be – whereas with lighter hues, they’ll help to give a brightening effect to your overall look! When it comes to ombre hues, you really can’t lose.

Golden/olive skin

If you have golden, olive-toned skin, you should definitely consider opting for warm, caramel tones in your tresses. These tend to work best with darker hair types and are perfect for enhancing the natural hues of your skin, while giving it loads of extra depth and dimension.

Of course, if you’re completely at a loss for what your skin tone is, it’s worth consulting your hair stylist first. They will be able to advice you on the colours that will complement your skin tone, and the best hues to suit your hair’s natural shade!

Mid-toned skin

Ombre highlights are perfect for balancing your complexion, especially if you have skin that tans easily. So, if you have mid-toned skin, you should think about opting for brown, gold ombre, and muted blondes, as these colours will complement and enhance your skin tone perfectly.

Not only that, but these shades are also great for adding a sun-kissed touch to your locks – after all, beachy hues aren’t just for summer!

Fair skin

If you fair skin, you’ll know that working highlights into you mane can be a little tricky – go one shade wrong and you could risk washing yourself out, or even emphasising any pink tones you may have. With this in mind, we suggest opting for softening shades of gold, light blondes, and ashy tones, as these are perfect for complementing your skin colour, without creating too much contrast in your overall look.

Editor’s tip: Thinking of getting a hot ombre hue this winter? Then don’t forget to use a wash and care duo which has been formulated with dyed tresses in mind. We especially love the Dove Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner, as it has been specially designed to help keep your colour vibrant for longer!
