Once upon a time, natural black hair was not viewed as the powerful and empowering hair type that it is now (sucks, right?), but thanks to the help of a few iconic women, that view slowly started to change. And now, bloggers, vloggers and real women are all embracing their lovely hair — as they should!

And seeing as today is World Afro Day (Happy ‘Froday!), we’re taking a look back at the best afro hair moments in history – all of which you need to take note of.

American actress, model and singer Marsha Hunt was sporting a big, beautiful afro during the ’60s and ’70s.

Her fierce personality and power curls landed her a cover on British Vogue, and judging from the picture above, its clear to see why. With its enviable volume and bounce, this gravity-defying style exudes a tonne of vintage-glamour vibes. #Slay!
