Let’s be real here, when it comes to cool and exciting hairstyles, ponytails don’t rank too highly. However, thanks to this season’s runways being inspired by all things structured, the humble ponytail is back with a brand new, fashionable twist.
But what makes them so different to the no-frill ponys we know and love? Well, this year’s take is a much more structured affair, featuring sleek, slicked-back hair and neat design details. And with numerous celebs (from Gigi Hadid to Kim Kardashian) already pioneering the trend, 2017 could be the year that ponytails officially reach true style status…

Twist and shout
One of the easiest – and most sophisticated – ways to upgrade a basic ponytail, is to add a twisted detail at the base.
To get the look, simply brush your hair back into a regular ponytail and secure with a hair elastic. Then take a piece of hair (around an inch thick) from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the base. Use bobby pins to keep your twist in place and conceal any extra hair – now you’re good to go!

It’s time to live out those childhood pony club dreams! This unique style is actually reminiscent of the wrap-around techniques used to style horses’ tails, but we’re sure you’ll agree it looks equally fab on this model, too. This look will certainly win you first place in the pony races!
