ATH take on the statement hair slides trend
Say it loud and say it proud!
As much as fashion shows inspire our next season wardrobe, we can’t deny the brutal fact that many runway collections are simply unattainable to the masses. Yet while we might invest in key pieces like bags or shoes (ahhh shoes) the easiest, quickest, and most affordable way to tap into a trend is by looking at the hair and beauty looks from the shows – and that’s exactly what I did.
From Ashley Williams to Chanel, there was no denying that the hottest ‘It’ hair accessory was the statement hair slide. Never the one to miss out on a fab trend, I decided to play around with some statement hair slides of my own and give this runway trend the ATH treatment.
4 ways to wear the statement hair slides trend seen at Fashion Week
Messy bun
Inspired by Alexa Chung, who wore this exact look way back in 2016, this messy bun has to be my fave style to date.
It’s already my go-to updo when I’m in a hurry so creating it was a doddle. But with my fancy new accessory added in, it doesn’t make me look like I have just rolled out of bed (which I secretly have).
To get this look I simply tipped my head upside down and generously sprayed my hair with the TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray.
I then brushed the product through to help tame frizz and flyaways, reached for a hairband and wrapped the length of my hair into a messy bun. Then, of course, I added the slide as my pièce de résistance!
Braids
While the models at Chanel Métiers d’Art show opted for sleek fishtail braids, I decided that without a glam squad on hand I would give the look my own spin. Now I don’t consider myself a braiding pro but a simple 3-strand braid I can do pretty well.
To give my hair texture and tousled waves, I spritzed my towel-dried tresses with the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray before rough drying my hair with a hairdryer.
For more defined curls I reached for my beloved curling wand before styling into a loose braid, topping the look off with my OTT hair slide. I think this makes for a great everyday style, requiring little time and minimum effort but still looks totally on-trend.
Temple slides
Inspired by the Simone Rocha show, I will be wearing statement hair slides just above my temples for spring/summer. This may just be my boldest take on the trend as it is, quite frankly, the most in your face – but after some time wearing the style I fell head over heels in love with it.
Another first for me was styling my hair in a side-parting, something I haven’t done for many many years. Ever the centre-parting fan I decided to take inspiration from the Cushnie et Ochs AW18 runway show, where models hair were given a shaggy side-parted finish.
Half-up, half-down
Step aside messy bun, I think I have a new fave. Half-up, half-down hairstyles like this are not my usual go-to look, but for a special occasion like a wedding or family event I think this look is perfect.
Pretty and picturesque: I am surprisingly in love with this hairstyle, making me feel so put together.
To help pump up my fine locks and add fullness I used the TONI&GUY 3D Volumiser Spray. Luckily for me, I can use this on dry hair to help boost shine and add body before styling.
