Renaissance look hair how-to: Altuzarra NYFW inspiration

A modern twist on these ye olde hairstyles.

We know what you’re thinking, but before you scoff at the Renaissance look, hear us out first. During New York Fashion Week, we practically fell head over heels for the medieval-inspired hairstyles at the Altuzarra catwalk show.

But are we so in love with this hair trend? Well, because the look is so wearable and easy to do! So, ahead we’ve put together a little how-to guide to help you nail this catwalk trend and recreate this historical hairstyle yourself. Enjoy!

How to get the Renaissance look from Altuzarra

Step 1: Start with clean hair

To really nail this Renaissance look, start off with nice, clean hair. We suggest washing your hair with the TONI&GUY Volume Addiction Shampoo and Conditioner to give your mane that extra bit of oomph!

This clever wash and care system enhances volume and adds body with a weightless feel, giving you tresses that are plumped up and ready for styling.

Step 2: Apply mousse

Once you’ve washed your locks, apply a generous amount of TRESemmé Volume and Lift Mousse throughout your damp hair. Blowdry your hair in small sections with a round brush, using a hairdryer with a nozzle attachment.

Step 3: Protect and curl

Smooth a couple of pumps the VO5 Heat Protect Serum onto sections of your hair, then take 1-2 inch sections of hair and loosely curl the section, a few inches from the root and straighten.

Step 4: Tease and add texture

Once you’ve curled your hair, let the curls cool, gently brush your curls. Carefully tease your hair at the crown to give your tresses a little oomph.

Step 5: Create your ponytail

Gather your hair into a low ponytail and secure with a hairband that matches the colour of your tresses. Spray the VO5 Ultimate Hold Hairspray to help keep your Renaissance look perfect all day long.

Then all you have to do is slide your headband on, roughly two inches from your forehead, and you’re done!
