This year pearl hair accessories have transitioned from being a niche high fashion and bridal hair trend to one of the hottest looks around. We’ve seen them all over the place and we thought it was high time we tried it out ourselves. Could we actually make it look as good as the Pinterest inspo pictures?
The pearl hair trend as seen on the ATH editors

“I loved the pearl encrusted hair clips at Simone Rocha’s SS18 show, so I tried to create something similar with these hair slides. One wasn’t enough (duh), so I layered up with 4 down the side of my head. This may sound like overkill, but as they’re so minimal I didn’t feel like it was OTT.”
Editor’s tip: My hair has a natural wave to it, so I started by straightening my hair. I then added a spritz of the TIGI Catwalk Camera Ready Shine Spray before combing my hair back behind my ear, which gave me a sleek and shiny look.”

“Double Dutch braids are one of my go-to hairstyles for work, so I wanted to see how pearls could spruce them up a little. Even though this look has definite festive vibes, I think this would work equally well for festival season, too, so I’m sure I’ll still be rocking these once summer (eventually!) rolls back around.
Editor’s tip: I washed my hair this morning so it was almost too clean (first world problems, eh!), so I added some grit with the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray. This made it easier for me to work my hair into the braids and helped hold the look in place, meaning I could skip out on the hairspray.”

“When I first heard we’d be trying this trend I was a bit apprehensive about how I’d be able to work it. Why? Because I’m currently wearing my hair in Marley twists, so I’m a bit limited in what accessories I can use.
On days when I want my protective hairstyle off of my face I tend to go for a plain pony, but I think this pearl hair scrunchie adds a chic and sophisticated touch, meaning I can easily get in on the trend!”

While this look is totally acceptable to rock on a daily basis, we think it would really shine at a formal occasion.
Editor’s tip: Complete your look with a generous spritz of VO5 Ultimate Hold Hairspray, which will give you 24-hour humidity protection and an all-day hold – jackpot!
Braids and pearls
Sparking off the pearl hair accessories trend was none other than Italian fashion house, Gucci. To finish of the models’ looks, small braided sections were added throughout the hair, which were then threaded through small pearls.
As you can see, the outcome is simply stunning and gives a more ethereal feel than a headband. Brides-to-be and festival-goers should take note!
Editor’s tip: Recreate those effortless waves at home by using a few pumps of the VO5 Wave Creation Foam through your lengths, before blow-drying your hair to finish.
We all know fashion house Chanel is a lover of a pearl detail, but while their oh-so-dreamy pearl encrusted bags and jackets might not be attainable to us just yet *triple checks lottery numbers, just in case*, this pearl headband is a happy compromise.
