Oscar 2019: Best hairstyles
While everyone was talking about Melissa McCarthy’s bunny outfit and Oliva Colman’s speech, we were more fixated on Lady Gaga’s retro beautiful hair and all the beautiful blunt bobs.
Lady Gaga’s Audrey Hepburn-inspired updo
Lady Gaga paid homage to 1954 Best Actress winner Audrey Hepburn with this vintage updo.
Jennifer Lopez’s side-swept waves
We can’t decide what we love most about JLo‘s look – the gorgeous caramel hue or the perfect side-swept waves.
Editor’s tip: To recreate JLo’s flowing waves, lock your curls in place (and fend off frizz) by setting your hair with the VO5 Invisible Ultimate Hold Hairspray.
Brie Larson’s effortless waves
Brie Larson‘s Marvel-ous red carpet hairstyle shows that relaxed, tousled waves are always a good choice.
Rachel Weisz’s diamond headband
Rachel Weisz gave this season’s headband trend the ultimate star treatment with a dazzling diamond leaf headband.
Regina King’s tousled lob
If we ever happen to be accepting our first Academy Award, we hope our hair looks as good as this.
Emilia Clarke’s chic brunette bob
The Game of Thrones star sported a rich brunette bob, styled in a slick centre part and tucked behind her ears.
Editor’s tip: Want to steal Emilia’s sleek Oscars style? Then amp up the shine factor on your own hair – while also combating flyaways – by smoothing the TONI&GUY High Shine Serum Drops through your locks.
Amandla Stenberg’s box braid updo
Amandla Stenberg wore her toffee coloured box braids in an updo with 1920s inspired finger waves.
Amy Adams’ beachy side waves
Amy Adams wore her auburn locks soft and textured with side-swept beachy waves.
Editor’s tip: To give hair that beachy, sandy effect, we like to prep our hair with a texture-boosting spray such as the VO5 Texturising Sea Salt Spray.
Lucy Boynton’s old Hollywood bob
The Bohemian Rhapsody beauty channelled traditional Hollywood glamour with a curly deep-parted bob.
Rewind: A recap of the best Oscars 2018 hair looks
A lot can happen in a year… Let’s take a trip down memory lane and recap on some of the best looks from previous Oscars red carpets, below.
Danai Gurira’s painted buzz
Thanks to her roles in The Walking Dead and now Black Panther, Danai Gurira is the name on everyone’s lips. If you’ve seen the film already (don’t worry, no spoilers here!), then you’ll know that Danai rocks an allover shaved look in her role as the fierce general Okoye.
She dressed up her closely cropped hair with a metallic white spray-painted design, showing that less hair doesn’t mean less creativity. Buzz cuts, forever!
Saoirse Ronan’s chin-length bob
Lady Bird’s Saoirse Ronan may have missed out on the Best Actress award but at least she went home with the gong for best bob!
This new razor-sharp style is much shorter than we’ve seen the Irish/American actress go before but the light blonde hue and nirvana roots keep it looking soft with a youthful air.
Editor’s tip: Love Saoirse’s ultra sleek bob? Get your mane looking as perfect as hers by using the TONI&GUY Flyaway Taming Wand to smooth down any stray strands.
Andra Day’s floral pony
Hayfever sufferers, look away now! Singer Andra Day took her floral theme to the next level for this year’s Oscars by not only wearing a floral-printed gown and sparkling flower jewellery, but by adorning her luscious curly ponytail with pretty pink blooms, too. No guesses what we’ll be doing come festival season…
Laura Dern’s Hollywood waves
Big Little Lies and Star Wars actress Laura Dern opted for classic old Hollywood vibes by topping off her classic look with side-swept waves. On anyone else it might not have been that exciting, but Laura’s light auburn locks elevate this timeless style to new heights.
Lupita Nyong’o’s gold threaded updo
We’re not sure if Lupita Nyong’o was trying to make a subtle hint to the academy for next year’s awards by dressing up as an actual Oscar, but hey, she pulls it off!
The actress tied in her golden gown by adding shimmering golden thread through her pompadour updo to complete this sparkling style.
Salma Hayek’s braided updo
Salma Hayek brought the romantic vibes with this loose, braided updo. With such a heavily embellished dress and showstopping jewellery, she could have easily overdone it with the hair but by keeping it understated and romantic, it balances out perfectly.
Editor’s tip: Tempted to try and steal Salma’s style? Whenever we’re creating braided hairstyles, we recommend prepping hair with the TONI&GUY Flexible Hold Braid Balm to give it more hold and staying power.
Zendaya’s perfect top knot
Simple but absolutely stunning, Zendaya just shows that you don’t have to go over the top with your hair in order to look absolutely killer. Her perfectly slicked-back top knot had not a hair out of place and really let her natural beauty shine through. When you look that pretty why hide away, right?
Best hairstyles from the Oscars 2017
From Charlize Theron’s elegant hair ponytail to Ruth Negga’s jewel-encrusted headband, we were just in awe of all the hairstyles at the 2017 Oscars.
Felicity Jones’ half-up half-down ‘do
Birmingham native Felicity Jones flew the flag for the UK at the Oscars 2017. She graced the red carpet looking like a real-life fairy, thanks to her stunning embellished Dior gown! The Rogue One star complemented her showstopping dress by styling her long, brunette tresses into a classic half-up half-down hairstyle for a classy and elegant look.
Editor’s tip: Want to know how you can make your half-updo look more voluminous? Try spritzing some of the volume-boosting TIGI Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! Dry Shampoo into your roots and then gently backcombing it for extra lift.
Ruth Negga’s jewel-encrusted headband
Hair accessories look set to make a major comeback this year, with stars like Janelle Monáe adorning their locks with glitzy accessories for the event. However, it was lady in red (AKA Best Actress nominee Ruth Negga) and her ruby-encrusted headband that really won us over!
The pushed-back style showed off her burgundy-toned makeup and coordinated earrings, for a perfectly put together ensemble.
Charlize Theron’s chic ponytail
Let’s face it, Charlize Theron always looks flawless, and last night was certainly no exception. The Mad Max star graced the Oscars 2017 red carpet sporting an understated side ponytail, proving that you don’t always have to opt for a super elaborate style to be red carpet ready!
We love how she rocked an angular side parting, couple with a perfectly coiffed top, to help add a touch of glamour to the otherwise simple style.
Hailee Steinfeld’s double top knot
Come on, an Oscars round-up wouldn’t be complete without an updo! American actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld’s double top knot looked absolutely gorgeous and ensured that her intricately beaded halterneck gown was in full view.
Editor’s tip: To achieve Hailee’s super shiny finish, reach for TRESemmé Ultimate Shine Hold Hairspray. Use it to set your look in place and it’ll give you so much shine people won’t be able to help but stop and stare at your glossy mane!
Viola Davis’ new pixie cut
Viola Davis took home the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences, so it’s only fitting that she was working a winning hairstyle, too! She’s traded in her bob haircut in favour of a funky new pixie crop style, complete with some pretty face-framing highlights.
