Mane moments: 7 memorable Jennifer Lopez hairstyles we will always love
Jenny from the block rocks!
For anyone who doesn’t know, today is Jennifer Lopez‘ 50th birthday (we know, she’s still killing it in the beauty game!). And since we’re feeling all nostalgic, we thought we’d rifle through the archives and pull 7 of her most memorable hair looks, just for you!
Jennifer’s path to stardom initially started as a dancer back in the 1990s, appearing in stage musicals and music videos, she was most notably a backing dancer for Janet Jackson. A series of acting jobs soon followed and, of course, a hugely successful music career.
With such a long and illustrious résumé, it’s safe to say that Jen is no stranger to attending the most elite red carpet events and award shows, which of course means an exceptional amount of fabulous hairdos, too.
Mane moments: 7 times Jennifer Lopez’ hair blew us away
1998: Dark lob
Back in 1998, JLo had already established herself as a dancer and actress, and was beginning to make advances on the music scene.
Channelling a more demure style, Jennifer looks almost unrecognisable with her dark brown hair in a smooth, curled-under style. With layers added to her mid-length tresses, her hair looks fuller and perfectly frames her face!
2000: Braids and bandana
This is quite possibly JLo’s most iconic hairstyle (and a personal favourite for us at All Things Hair HQ). Attending the MTV Awards in 2000, with musician and music mogul P.Diddy, Jennifer Lopez brought her A-game with this fantastic long wavy hairstyle.
Teaming her dark brown hair with sun-kissed blonde highlights, she added loose braids to the top of her hair and finished the look with a white bandana wrapped around her forehead.
Editor’s tip: Get Jennifer’s wavy finish by using the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creating Sea Foam, which will make creating light waves a total breeze.
2002: Voluminous curls
Adding a mass of retro-looking spiral curls to her hair, Jennifer looks like a total silver screen siren with this ultra-voluminous hairstyle!
Finishing the look with a smooth quiff-like style, she brought tonnes of vintage glamour to the table at this red carpet event.
Editor’s tip: To ensure your style stays put all day, set your strands with a healthy dose of the VO5 Classic Styling High Volume Hairspray.
2006: Golden hour
Fast forward a few more years and Jen had begun rocking golden-brown tresses, which looked stunning against her lightly tanned skin.
Sweeping her mane into a side parting, JLo rocks a loose, wavy fringe and adds in some vintage-inspired pin curls to the long lengths of her low ponytail. Needless to say: she looked utterly fabulous!
2011: Idolistic waves
Making her mark as a judge on American Idol, Jen went for a full-on diva mane in 2011.
You could say that she helped to pioneer the highly sought-after beach waves look, adding tonnes of texture and volume into this blowout style. And just look at her glorious set of blonde highlights – every strand practically pops!
2015: Braid squad
Never one to shy away from a hair trend, Jennifer Lopez wore her tresses in a fun braided style in 2015.
Now, we all know about boxer braids, but one braid just wasn’t enough for our girl JLo! Instead, the singer went for a head full of wet-look cornrows, pairing them with equally slick baby hairs and seriously dramatic eye makeup.
Editor’s tip: To get JLo’s wet-look strands, reach for the VO5 Wet Look Styling Gel. It’ll ensure your hair maintains that sleek effect all night, while also holding your style in place.
2017: Rapunzel tresses
And here we are, in the present day. Having put her hair through the wringer over the years, it seems that JLo is allowing her mane to grow out – and she’s doing a grand job of it!
Even with her hair pulled up into a high ponytail (AKA her signature style), her tresses are still at an enviable Rapunzel length. With all her hair away from her face, this style opens up her face, highlighting her gorgeous features and beautiful makeup.
