InStyle Awards 2017: See the swankiest hairstyles from the night

Monday night never looked so glam.

It may have been a Monday, but that didn’t stop the stars descending on the Getty Center in Los Angeles last night for the annual InStyle Awards. With honorees including leading A-list ladies Elle Fanning, Demi Lovato, and Zendaya, the style stakes were as high as you’d expect – and the hair equally so.

To our surprise, a few stars used the occasion as an excuse to turn their usual hairstyles on their head and try out something totally new… So to see which looks caused the biggest stir here at All Things Hair HQ, keep scrolling!

Our favourite celeb hairstyles from the 2017 InStyle Awards

Zendaya’s afro

Our love for Zendaya (and her hair) knows no bounds – and this magical afro wig was on fire! Shaped into a perfectly-rounded silhouette, with masses of height and volume, she’s paving the way for naturalistas everywhere with her show-stealing red carpet styles. Keep up the good work, girl!

Elle Fanning’s new bangs

Maleficent star Elle Fanning is one of our favourite Hollywood blondes, usually sporting her long tresses down with a neat parting. Last night, however, she decided to stray from her signature style with a fresh new set of bangs!

Paired with a retro half-up look and curled ends, the eyebrow-skimming layers brought our attention to her neon green eyeshadow, giving her look a sweet and chic ’60s feel.

Serayah McNeill’s asymmetric bob

Thought the transformations ended there? Nope! Empire‘s Serayah McNeill also wowed us last night by trading her natural corkscrew curls for this enviable asymmetric bob.

Similar to Rihanna‘s memorable 2007 style, Serayah is proof that the asymmetric trend is still just as current and can be a great way to change up a basic bob into something a bit more unique.

Editor’s tip: Seeking shine? Use the TONI&GUY Finishing Shine Spray post styling, to give your look a touch of sheen and sophistication. As a bonus, it also acts as a barrier against frizz, flyaways and static, so your look stays looking perfectly polished.

Selena’s slick bun

Selena Gomez has rocked more red carpets than we can count, so you’d think we’d have come to expect a certain style from the star.

However, that said, we have to admit we barely recognised her when she stepped out with this sharp, slick back updo! With a precise middle part and off-centre top knot, the parred-back look had a feminine, face-flattering result.

Demi Lovato’s wet look hair

From Selena’s perfectly precise style to something altogether more lived-in, Demi Lovato donned an Ariel-inspired style for the event, wearing her long brunette locks in a glossy, wet look.

With all of her hair pulled around to one side to show off her flowing lengths, she brought our mermaid dreams to life with this look and for that, we salute her.

Editor’s tip: Wondering how you can rock the wet-look effect without actually having dripping hair? Enter: the VO5 Wet Look Styling Gel.

Only a small amount of this is needed to give your hair a high-shine finish and maintain the swept-back style Demi does so well.
