We love how the new H&M ad truly celebrates women (and their hair)!
Proof that feminism and fabulous hair go hand in hand.
If you haven’t yet seen the new H&M ad, we suggest you stop what you’re doing and watch it, like, right now. And yes, we’re being totally serious. For those of you that don’t know, the renowned high street retailer has released a new ad campaign to promote its autumn 2016 collection – and it’s awesome.
What’s all the fuss about, you ask? Well, the fast fashion retailer has decided to redefine what it means to be ‘ladylike’, by showcasing women of all shapes and sizes, and – most importantly – with all hair types and styles! About time, right?
Obviously, you can imagine the excitement at the All Things Hair HQ when we saw the stunning array of hairstyles in the latest H&M ad. The video campaign subversively features a cover of Tom Jones‘ “She’s a Lady,” by Lion Babe and the opening scene showcases a beautiful, curvaceous woman with long, brown hair, proudly strutting around in her underwear. Needless to say, we immediately fell in love.
From that point on, the hair inspiration only gets better. Among our other hair favourites is a sultry-looking lady with very on-trend peach-coloured waves, casually reclining to reveal fully-grown armpit hair.
Lion Babe’s Jillian Hervey’s afro also features, while she laughs and checks her gleaming teeth in the reflection of a knife. Yes, we forgive the table manners since the ‘fro is so fierce!
Essentially, we’re in love with how the H&M ad has turned female stereotyping on its head with this ballsy redefinition of what being a modern woman is. Come on, just take a look at the gorgeous skinhead model above – they really are branching out to be all hair-inclusiveness. And we couldn’t be happier about it!
If you’re somewhat of a fashionista, then stay on the lookout for the appearances of ’70s model Lauren Hutton, as well as the transgender actress and model Hari Nef. And if that wasn’t enough for you, they also featured boss chick extraordinaire and co-founder of Design Army Pum Lefebure, as well as skinhead model Adwoa Aboah.
