Calling all Upper East Siders! We have the biggest news ever: it’s been 10 years since Gossip Girl graced our screens and showed us how Manhattan’s elite really live (how time has flown!).
So to celebrate, we’ve decided to take a quick look back at the memorable hair moments from the show, as well as seeing what hairstyle our favourite cast members are rocking now. Excited? Keep scrolling on scrolling to get all the deets — XOXO, Mane Girl.
Then and now: How the cast of Gossip Girl are rocking their hair ATM
Then: headband and polished waves
Blair Waldorf (AKA Leighton Meester) was Manhattan’s very own Upper East Side queen and one of our favourite characters on the show — who can forget her Audrey Hepburn scene? She ruled the steps of the Met with pristine polished waves and a headband, making it the must-have accessory for all wannabe queens.
They say Rome wasn’t built in a day, but good hair can be with the right accessories, isn’t that right, Queen Bee?
Now: blonde highlights and Bardot bangs
Nowadays, Leighton Meester is living on the lighter side of life. She has added blonde highlights into her dark mane, which, when combined with her ’70s waves and Bardot bangs, exude utter cool-girl vibes. #Slay!
Then: undone and tousled
Let’s face it, Serena Van Der Wooden‘s (AKA Blake Lively) mane game was always on-point during Gossip Girl. And when Serena waltzed through Grand Central station with her golden, Cali-girl waves, she made a lasting impression.
Yep, she made bedhead hair a thing again and this style is still one of the most coveted looks around. So if you want to look like Manhattan’s most sought after It-girl, you know what to do.
Editor’s tip: Want to get sexy undone waves, too? Recreate the look by spritzing your hair with a sea salt spray, like the TRESemmé perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray, and you’ll give your strands the texture, body and lift they need for that effortless beachy vibe.
Now: boho and romantic
Known for her iconic waves on-screen, Blake Lively off-screen is still rightfully the queen of tousled hairstyles. Lately, however, she’s going down the boho route with this messy and romantic low ponytail. Ooo la la!
Then: classic curls
During the first season of GG, Taylor Momsen (AKA Jenny Humphrey) spent her time idolising Blair (we all did, J!).
As you can tell, she tried to channel Queen Bee vibes with some classic curls, which she aptly paired with a headband. You get an A+ for effort for this hairstyle, Jenny!
Now: grunge goddess waves
After good-girl-turned-bad Jenny failed to take down Queen Bee, she swapped Manhattan for Hudson and left the show for good (sobs).
From that point on Taylor focused on her music career and is now the lead singer in her rock band, The Pretty Reckless. Her signature look RN? Grunge goddess waves, which suit her fierce personality to a T.
Then: girl next door curls
Brooklyn babe Vanessa Abrams (AKA Jessica Szohr) was an outsider in the show and Dan Humphrey‘s best friend. Her quirky downtown fashion sense and gorgeous curls really set her apart from the rest of the characters on the show.
In the picture above, she’s pulled back her beautiful bouncy coils into a undone, low blogger bun, giving her those covetable girl nextdoor vibes!
Now: red carpet queen
