How to do glitter roots
What you’ll need:
- Fine glitter in a colour of your choice (be it pink or mermaid green!), we’ve gone for the VO5 Galactic Gold Hair Glitter. Not only is it ultra sparkly, it’s also biodegradable, so it’s safe for you and the planet.
- A damp brush or fingertips.
- VO5 Fixing Spray for Glitter.
To master how to do glitter roots, start with clean hair which has been brushed through to remove any knots and tangles. Then, neatly part your hair into either a centre or side parting — whichever you prefer.
Take some glitter and carefully sprinkle it all over your parting. Note that this step can get messy, so we recommend applying the glitter over a sink or old towel.
After you’ve sprinkled some over your hair, use your fingers or a damp brush to gently pat the glitter near your parting. Depending on the look you’re after, you can add as much or as little glitter as you like.
For added va-va-voom, sprinkle some thicker specs of glitter on top of your hair to create your glitter roots. This second layer of glitter can be a complementary or contrasting colour to the glitter underneath, or it can be shaped glitter specs, like stars or hearts.
If you’re after a colour that matches everything, opt for an iridescent silver, like the VO5 Silver Stardust Hair Glitter.
Set your glitter roots in place by spritzing your mane with some VO5 Fixing Spray For Glitter. This fine spray works to fix glitter to the hair, helping you keep your style in place throughout the day.
The best part? It won’t leave any sticky residue.
Editor’s tip: To apply it, spray short, even bursts over areas of the hair where glitter has been applied.
And there you have it: double-tap worthy strands that’ll shine while your rocking out at your favourite festivals.
Editor’s tip: If you don’t mind going all out, why not opt for matching glitter eyeshadow, too?
