Cyber-inspired hair meets NYFW…
New York Fashion Week is officially over (sobs), though of course, it finished with quite a bang! For the last day of festivities, we were treated to the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2017 show (which is renowned for out-of-this-world makeup and hairstyles). And this season certainly didn’t disappoint: models were sent down the runway flaunting colourful faux dreadlocks. And boy oh boy, did they start a conversation. See them for yourself in the gallery above, and don’t forget to read below to find out all about the hairdo that’s got everyone talking!
Marc Jacobs SS17: Colourful faux dreadlocks
Apparently, the inspiration for the look came from ravers and ’80s clubbers, however some news outlets have reported that the colourful faux dreadlocks more closely resemble the ‘boho chic‘ aesthetic. If you ask us, we think that they’re pretty cyber-looking, what with all of the bright colours and shimmering ensembles.
But that’s not even the best bit about these colourful ‘dos… Did you know that the faux dreadlocks were actually handmade by a seller on Etsy? Now, who said high fashion was pretentious?
The dreadlocks hairstyle was pretty asymmetric, featuring dreads that hung over the model’s faces and ones that fell in an organised disarray. The hues worked into each look varied, with some models’ dreadlocks donning pastel colours, while others rocked darker and more grungy tones. In this sense, every single model had their own unique dreadlocks hairstyle – pretty cool!
Among those strutting their stuff on the runway wearing the colourful handmade cotton dreadlocks, were some of our fave models. Jourdan Dunn, Adriana Lima, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid all worked the look in their own way – looking super edgy in the process.
