All that glitz and glamour!
With the biggest names in TV and film gathered on the red carpet for the Critics’ Choice Awards 2016 last night, there was most definitely no shortage of glamour! Alongside innumerable stunning ensembles, there also were a whole host of head-turning hairstyles sported by A-list stars, that had the All Things Hair team practically swooning at every turn.
Now, this may just be us, but we happen to think that this awards ceremony produced some of the most memorable mane styles of the year!
So, if you’re searching for a new celeb-worthy ‘do to sink your teeth into, simply click through our gallery above, or reading on to find out more about each of our fave looks from the night.
The best hairstyles from the Critics’ Choice Awards 2016
Singer and actress Janelle Monae isn’t one to shy away from experimenting with flamboyant hairstyles. From pompadours to braided mohawks, this naturalista has covered it all – and her latest hair offering, is this funky space bun duo!
Modern Family star Ariel Winter is typically seen out and about with ultra long, side-parted locks – which is why it came as such a surprise to us that she debuted a choppy, full fringe at the awards ceremony!
We recently reported that Bella Thorne dyed her hair a lush shade of red and green ombre, but it seems that she’s since ditched her lime-coloured ends in favour of a more subtle hue.
Editor’s tip: To get your ponytail as smooth and refined as Bella’s, use a small amount of the TRESemmé Oleo Radiance Oil Elixir on your mane, before styling.
Katheryn Winnick, who is best known for her role as Lagertha in the hit TV show Vikings, sported a hair-raising bouffant updo for the Critics’ Choice Awards 2016.
Her highlighted blonde strands look as if they’ve been backcombed to create a wispy, fluffed-out effect, that worked as the perfect accompaniment to her striking, sheer black ensemble!
Bryce Dallas Howard
Ignoring all the naysayers, American actress Bryce Dallas Howard embraced the ponytail, and proved to us all that it is, indeed, red carpet-worthy!
And with this funky ponytail look being previously donned by the likes of Kendall Jenner, it should really come as no surprise that other A-list stars have been quick to follow suit!
Dressed in a playful Elie Saab number, award-winning actress Kerry Washington opted for a messy, side fishtail braid, while she allowed the rest of her wavy layers to fall effortlessly in front of her face.
It may have an undone aesthetic, but it was undeniably chic! Seriously, is there any hairstyle that this woman can’t pull off?
Sarah Paulson may have snapped up an award for her outstanding performance in The People v. O.J. Simpson series, but in our books, she also won the award for her textured, wavy bob.
Editor’s tip: To recreate Sarah’s envious texture, spray the VO5 Dry Texturising Spray into your mane after styling, using your hands to scrunch the product into your strands.
Tracee Ellis Ross
American actress and comedian Tracee Ellis Ross rocked the red carpet (and our world!) last night, with several stylish cornrow braids. Opting for 2 tightly woven braids on either side of her head, and one running straight down the middle, she managed to create the illusion of an edgy ‘frohawk!
To complete her fashionable braided look, she chose a pair of glittering droplet earrings – which we’re very envious of, by the way. Can we borrow these please, Tracee?
Carly Chaikin, who rose to fame in the hit TV series Suburgatory, was another celeb to jump on the braids bandwagon!
Carly styled her long, brunette hair by inserting 3 braids along her scalp, before pulling her loose tresses up into a high, wavy pony. We think that this look is so simple, yet so stylish, that it may just become our new go-to hairstyle!
Looking as elegant as ever, Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon attended the event in a stunning floor-length red and pink gown.
Opting to keep her hair and makeup relatively simple, Cynthia ensured that all of the attention remained on her mesmerising dress. Just a subtle smoky eye and a textured, side-swept pixie crop was all that she needed to complete her classy look, and have us running to the salon!
Editor’s tip: If you want your pixie crop to look like Cynthia’s, we suggest using some VO5 Classic Styling Soft Moulding Wax, to separate your strands and add some subtle texture.
