The celebrity session stylist shares his backstage tips for creating one of this season’s hottest hair looks.
What you’ll need
New York Fashion Week is officially in full swing. And the All Things Hair team over in The Big Apple have been dutifully attending the spring/summer 2017 shows to get the lowdown on the best hairstyles and trends from the runway. While it’s no secret that we’re feeling rather envious of the fact that our Stateside colleagues are currently brushing shoulders with some of the planet’s most fashionable bodies, not to mention the most respected session stylists in the industry, we’re actually pretty psyched that our Associate Beauty Editor Alyssa managed to wrangle in a few minutes with celebrity hairstylist Orlando Pita, backstage at the Charles Youssef show!
And not only did she get all the details on how Mr Pita decided on the wonderfully romantic, yet cool hairstyle for New York-based label Charles Youssef’s SS17 show, but she also got him to spill on some tips and tricks to help us recreate the look at home, too!
So, what are you waiting for? Keep scrolling and see what went down backstage at NYFW, now.

About the hairstyle he created for Charles Youssef SS17…
Charles’ clothes have a certain architecture to them, but at the same time there’s a flow and an ease. This season there’s lightness, so the hairstyle reflects that. It has a natural texture, there’s some confinement and contained parts, but there’s also free-flowing and romance in the hairstyle. – Orlando Pita.
The hairstyle that Orlando Pita created for the show was an ethereal-looking half-up, half-down twisted bun. This complex look features twisted strands that are rolled into the shape of a bun. Pita’s inspiration came from Charles Youssef’s ready-to-wear collection itself, which is why he worked romantic, yet laid-back vibes into the hairstyle – ensuring it complemented the collection perfectly.
So how can we get the look at home?
Take two chunks of hair and roll them, and make one ponytail in the back and just do a kind of criss-cross to make that bun shape. – Orlando Pita.
The celebrity session stylist did advise that this hairstyle is rather tricky to create, especially as all of the detail is at the back of your head. But fear not: he did offer up a much less complicated take on the look that we could easily recreate at home, instead!
What products should we use to create the hairstyle?
Use the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray (£5.50*) as a finishing spray, and then the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray (£5.50*). We’re not putting anything on the hair that makes it hard. It’s all about softness; nothing is supposed to be sprayed in place or (look) stiff. – Orlando Pita.
As the whole concept of the Charles Youssef SS17 hairstyle revolved around delicate motifs, it’s no surprise that Pita opted for styling products from the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done range. This range allows you to create gorgeous wavy hairstyles that are super soft, brushable and full of movement.
