Make way for this hair accessory comeback…
At this season’s Paris Haute Couture Week, Chanel paid tribute to one of the most iconic hair accessories ever: the headband. Creative director Karl Lagerfeld sent models down the runway of the autumn/winter 2016 show with black bow headbands, used to hold up and emphasise their super high buns and super chic pixie crops.

Trend spotting: Headbands at the Chanel Couture AW16 show
At the Chanel couture show, many models’ hair were styled into super high, super volumised buns (because the bigger, the better, right?). The hair on their scalp was pulled neatly and tightly back, while the hair in their buns was curled into super tight ringlets to create dramatic height and volume.
The look was finished with a chic, satin black bow headband positioned just above their hairline.
Editor’s tip: Want to try and recreate these ultra curly updos? To make your curls super voluminous, sprinkle some of the VO5 Instant Volume Powder through your hair to add more texture to your curls.
For extra height and texture, use your fingers to gently pull on your curls to fluff them up even more.
The bow headbands were positioned slightly off-centre, and were complemented with heavy black lashes and eyeliner. Although the clothes were, of course, breathtakingly beautiful, for us the hairstyles and headbands totally stole the show this time.
Some models had their mane styled into buns, while others rocked cool pixie crops. To recreate this look at home, pair a choppy pixie with a black bow headband for a couture rock ‘n’ roll vibe. And when placing the headband, be sure to position it so that it sits just behind your fringe for best effect.
