There’s no doubt that beautiful braids continue to be at the top of our hair lists. And with our Instagram feeds chock full of French plaits, halo braids, milkmaid plaits and many more braided styles, you never need get into a styling rut! However, if you think that braids are just for the long-haired, think again. Believe it or not, there are lots of short braids that you can rock in a cropped mane.
Okay, so we can tell you’re going to need some further convincing. Which is why we’ve come up with an edit of our favourite short celebrity braids, just for you – take a look!
Ladies’ short braids: A-list looks you should try
Rock chick Kseniya Durst (and wife of Limp Bizkit rocker Fred Durst) shows us how to perfectly nail a funky and fun, side braid on short tresses. And we think that this pretty plait helps to take her basic bob from bland to beautiful in an instant!
Not a fan of the French plait? Don’t worry: you can also work a short braids look with a delightful Dutch braid or flat twist, instead. Phew!
Freida Pinto’s hairstyle proves that cornrows aren’t just for working out! In fact, cornrows can be a cute option for parties and formal events. And the best part? You don’t even need to plait all your hair!
Just take a leaf out of Freida’s hair book and opt for plaiting a small section – it’s less daunting and still super pretty!
Editor’s tip: The key to rocking a short braided ‘do is to invest in a hairspray that will endeavour to hold everything in place. We recommend VO5 Ultimate Hold Hairspray for a powerful hold that lasts all day on all braids – big and small!
Find French plaits and side braids rather complicated? Then you might want to give this really simple pigtail hairstyle a go, instead.
However, just a heads-up: this won’t work as well on the ultra cropped heads, so make sure your hair length is similar to Alexa Chung’s before you start braiding.
Editor’s tip: Try applying a couple of pumps of the TONI&GUY High Shine Serum Drops to your hands before weaving your plait, this will help instantly create smooth, glossy pigtails!
Reverse milkmaid braid
If you are a short-haired girl who wants to rock a plait as well as Zosia Mamet, then you have to work with what you’ve got.
Zosia puts a spin on the traditional milkmaid braid and succeeds in making her hair look thicker and ornate, when actually, all it is are 2 simple pigtail plaits crossed over and pinned at the nape of the neck. Smart and simple, eh?
