How Alexander Wang’s bleach blonde babes are leading the way at NYFW

Trust us, you're going to want to look just like them come next summer.

Bleach blonde babes are back in town! Well, at least at New York Fashion Week, it seems. For those of you who haven’t been following NYFW as closely as we have (can’t help it: we’re obsessed), yesterday, Alexander Wang showcased his spring/summer 2017 collection on a beautiful band of blonde models.

And while this hair colour isn’t exactly a new trend (especially when it comes to sunshine season), it did feel fresher and more exciting, thanks to the sexily tousled, retro-style choppy layers it was paired with.

The American fashion designer reportedly requested a handful of his models to bleach their hair for his catwalk presentation this season (because blonde is so in right now, obvs).

And not only that, but some 18 girls also had their locks cut, with lots of choppy, shaggy layers worked in, resulting in an effortlessly edgy look that was the perfect amalgamation of the ’70s free-spirited attitude, ’90s grunge and Cali surfers.

It may sound strange to have such contrasting influences in just one look, but paired with his distressed denim and bikini top collection, it worked an absolute dream. So, cue damp-looking, tousled tresses, in just-back-from-the-beach waves and sun-bleached hues!

Perhaps time’s finally up for glamorous Hollywood-inspired waves. Because it looks like next summer’s hair trend is all about those lived-in textures and looking perfectly undone.

And you know what? we’re kinda pleased that the no-effort aesthetic is taking off as the new polished. Just think of it as 2017’s equivalent of normcore, but for hair!

Editor’s tip: To recreate the tousled beach-babe look, why not try using some of the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray? Just spray over damp tresses, scrunch in and leave your hair to air-dry.

Don’t despair if you have a poker-straight mane, though, you can get the same ‘undone’ look by simply twisting small sections of your hair and lightly drying it with a diffuser – easy peasy!

Want to rock the look with medium or dark complexions? Then we suggest working your bleach blonde hue a little further down your mane.

By leaving your roots darker, it anchors the bleach blonde, allowing the richer roots to frame your forehead so you won’t look washed out.

Editor’s tip: Avoid brassy tones by using a shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for blonde hair, like the TIGI Catwalk Fashionista Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner.

This gentle wash-and-care duo boosts cool tones, reduces brassy tones and helps make your hair look shinier. Plus, if you want to give your hair a little extra TLC, then treat it with the TIGI Fashionista Blonde Mask!
