Fringe benefits: See the new bangs trend that’s already got the Victoria’s Secret girls’ seal of approval
New year, new hair? Look to the VS girls for your inspo!
2017 was undoubtedly the year of the Bardot bangs, with stars like Chloë Grace Moretz and Georgia May Jagger rushing to emulate the ’60s split fringe style. But now there’s another 20th century icon inspiring a brand new set of bangs: Jane Birkin. Yes, as in the Jane Birkin, of Hermès bag fame.
Anyone with a Pinterest account will know that Jane Birkin hair is by no means a new thing; in fact A-listers like Dakota Johnson and Alexa Chung have long looked to her wispy, full fringe for hairspiration. However, with a host of Victoria’s Secret’s leading ladies already instigating the trend just in time for Christmas, we’re convinced it will only get more and more popular as we enter the new year.
So, if you’re short of ideas for your new year’s cut, get your angel wings ready and prepare to see in 2018 in style!
All the Victoria’s Secret angels are getting Birkin bangs
Swedish model Elsa Hosk was the first to unveil a festive makeover, sharing a photo of her cool blonde locks with a fresh wispy fringe, rather than her usual centre parted look.
Nodding to another of the last century’s hottest styles, the ‘Rachel’ (inspired by Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel Green from Friends), she remarked “Just wanna live in a 90s sitcom ???♀️”. She’s so pretty we want to cry! Credit: @hoskelsa
Next up came the turn of baby faced 21-year-old Taylor Hill with a new eyebrow skimming style. The layered look, which becomes longer around the sides for a full-bodied look, adds even more throwback vibes to her already retro-looking wavy brunette hair, giving her an authentic ’70s feel. And most recent to get in on the trend was Romee Strijd, the Dutch model who shared a shot with her new piecey fringe. As if her cheekbones weren’t killer enough already, the thin wispy pieces accentuate her to-die-for bone structure perfectly and bring out her piercing blue eyes.
If you were a fan of the Bardot trend, you’ll be pleased to see that Romee’s wearing her fringe slightly parted down the centre, so this is the perfect way to pay homage to both hair icons – Bardot and Birkin – in one wearable look. Credit: @romeestrijd
Editor’s tip: Now that the VS girls have shown how great a fresh pair of bangs can look, resistance is futile, so why not give it a try?
The key to nailing the Birkin vibe is to ensure your fringe is as wispy and natural-looking as possible, so dry shampoo will be a styling must-have whether your hair gets greasy or not. The TRESemmé Instant Refresh Translucent Dry Shampoo is undetectable once in the hair, giving fringes a full, plumped-up look.
