BAFTAs 2019: The unmissable hairstyles from the red carpet
Nominations for the 'Best Hair' category are in...
Last night, world-renowned actors and filmmakers came together at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the 72nd British Academy Film Awards. With stars like Thandie Newton and Lily Collins in attendance, there was some fierce competition in the style stakes, especially when it came to hair!
If you didn’t manage to watch the BAFTAs 2019, don’t fret: we’ve rounded up our favourite hairstyles from the night just for you. See which styles made the cut in our gallery above, or simply read on for all the details…
BAFTAs 2019: The hair winners
Lily Collins
Wowing most recently in her role as Fantine in Les Misérables, Lily Collins went for a red carpet style staple with her dark brown hair styled in a smooth and sleek chignon.
Complementing her BAFTAs hairstyles, Lily went for a deep plum lipstick, dazzling drop earrings and a deep blue outfit.

Thandie Newton
Red carpet hairstyles have quite a reputation for being, well, rather difficult to do on yourself, which is why we love Thandie Newton’s pared back look.
Her dark brown hair was straightened for a simple hairstyle we can emulate everyday. Giving it the red carpet finish, Thandie added drop earrings and a strapless dress. Who knew it could be so simple?
Editor’s tip: Want to create Thandie’s smooth and sleek look? Be sure to use a heat protecting spray like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray to not only get smoother looking frizz free hair but to also protect your tresses from the use of heated styling tools.
Laura Harrier
There was no missing American actress and model Laura Harrier at the 2019 BAFTAs. With her enviable long brown wavy hair styled in a side parting (perfect for that over the shoulder pose), Laura completed her red carpet hairstyle with a broach (yes a broach) to help pin back her tresses.

Maya Jama
Giving the thumbs up to tousled textured hair was Maya Jama with her Rapunzel-like rope braid.
Sweeping her long dark brown hair over one shoulder, Maya went for a perfectly imperfect twisted style that can be worn from day to night, and well the red carpet now!
Editor’s tip: Looking for the perfect product to give your tresses effortless texture for undone style like Maya’s? Say hello to the fan fave VO5 Dry Texturising Spray.
For instant texture, spray evenly onto the lengths of hair, holding the can approximately 30cm away from your hair and scrunch and tousle with your fingers.
Lucy Boynton
Proving that short hair is just as fun to play with as long hair is Bohemian Rhapsody actress Lucy Boynton.
Wearing her short blonde bob in a half-up, half-down hairstyle, Lucy went the extra mile by adding extra volume around her crown for an evening look.
BAFTAs 2018: The best looks from the night
Saoirse Ronan
All eyes were on leading actress nominee Saoirse Ronan and we like to think it has a little to do with her romantic updo. Wearing her buttery blonde hair in two French braids, the Lady Bird star left loose strands to fall around her hairline for a soft and romantic feel.
Editor’s tip: Seal in an updo like Saoirse’s with a lightweight hairspray, like the VO5 Wave Creation Hairspray, for an all day reworkable hold.
Use on dry hair before creating your waves or, if you have naturally wavy hair, simple spray onto tresses and scrunch through to add definition.
Naomie Harris
Naomie Harris looked incredible (as always) at the BAFTAs 2018. Showing off her new twisted braids, Naomie kept her style simple, stacking her hair into a high bun.
And let’s be real: who would want to steal attention away from that fabulous jewelled and fringed sheer dress? Not us.
Natalie Dormer
Looking a far cry from her Game of Thrones character Queen Margaery Tyrell, Natalie Dormer went for va-va-volume at the BAFTAs 2018 and we think she might just be on to something with this look. Why? Because 80’s power hair is back, according to Gucci and Versace who have been championing the style on and off the catwalk.
Editor’s tip: Thinking of creating this look at home? Start off on the right foot by using a volumising mousse on wet hair.
We love the TRESemmé Volume and Lift Mousse for giving our tresses all the OTT volume it needs for sky-high hairstyles.
Rochelle Humes
Ever since declaring to ditch the heated styling tools for an au naturel approach to her hair, Rochelle Humes has been wowing us with some fantastic styles – and last night was no different.
Wearing her shoulder-length tresses parted down the centre, Rochelle’s curls perfectly frame her face, but it’s her flawless golden brown ombre hue that we love the most about this look.
Anya Taylor-Joy
A round of applause for Anya Taylor-Joy, as the actress has made the list for the best BAFTA looks two years in a row! From her blonde ponytail in 2017 to her wavy brown tresses in 2018, Anya is certainly one to watch for hair inspiration.
Looking like she has just stepped off a Dolce & Gabbana runway, Anya finished her tousled wavy ‘do with a gold embellished crown – because why not!
BAFTAs 2017: The best looks from the night
Bryce Dallas Howard
Known for her roles in Jurassic World and the Twilight saga, American actress Bryce Dallas Howard sported a messy top knot for the star-studded event. Her signature red hair and soft, face-framing fringe really worked to bring out the green in her eyes.
Editor’s tip: Want to try and recreate Bryce’s messy top knot at home? We recommend spritzing a sea salt spray, like the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray through your hair before styling, to give your style a more dishevelled, undone texture.
Daisy Ridley
We’re used to seeing British actress Daisy Ridley with her hair tied up when playing the part of Rey in Star Wars, so we almost didn’t recognise her in this glamorous get-up!
Her chin-length, brunette bob was coiffed back for a voluminous, windswept vibe which looked oh-so-cool.
Kate Middleton
The Duchess of Cambridge always looks flawless, but she looked like an actual Disney princess at this year’s BAFTAs.
Choosing to wear her glossy brunette locks in an elegant chignon, Kate looked every bit elegant, and also really made the most of the strapless bardot neckline of her dress with her updo choice!
Editor’s tip: For hair as smooth as Kate’s, give your strands a spritz with TRESemmé Ultimate Shine Hold Hairspray, to help tame any frizz and flyaways.
Anya Taylor-Joy:
20-year-old Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy just proved that ponytails are anything but boring with this chic red carpet style.
For the event, her light blonde tresses were tied back into a low ponytail for a simple yet sophisticated ‘do that complemented her extravagant pleated gown perfectly.
Amy Adams
Updos were clearly a popular choice for this year’s awards ceremony, and we loved actress Amy Adams’ glamorous ‘do. Unlike Bryce Dallas Howard’s lived-in, messy top knot, Amy opted for a more sleek style.
Her fiery red locks were slicked back and twisted into a perfectly polished braided bun, which looked absolutely amazing with the backless mesh detail of her dress.
