How Bollywood-inspired hair and makeup ruled at Ashish SS17

Think embellished, extravagant braids...

It’s no secret that the Ashish ready-to-wear shows never fail to wow. Last year at the spring/summer 2016 show, models were sent down the runway dripping in confetti and glitter – but this year, the spring/summer 2017 show was inspired by the dazzlingly glam Bollywood scene (think extravagant braids and ornate hair accessories).

So if you missed out on all the exceptional ‘dos from this season’s catwalk, take a peek at our favourite backstage hair looks in our gallery, above, and read on to discover the key product used to create the styles!

This extravagant hair look, showcased by model Neelam Gill, was inspired by the Bollywood films of the ’50s and ’60s.

It features a messy high bun, with a cascading crimped braid casually swung over one shoulder. The long faux braid was interwoven with gold string and accessorised with various embellished hair clips.

To finish the look, they applied a detailed, golden headpiece (which is reminiscent of a traditional – if not regal – Indian wedding accessory).

The ‘runaway bride’ hairstyle was all about volume and drama. Loose tendrils were pulled out from the bun and around the models faces, giving stark contrast to the neat and tightly wrapped braid.

Editor’s tip: To help add volume and texture to the models’ hair, the stylists backstage used the TONI&GUY 3D Volumiser Spray to create fullness and body from root to tip.

The outfits and styles of this show weren’t made specific to one gender though, oh no! Both men and women were sent down the runway, equally adorned with lavish accessories and rocking long thick braids.

And of course, the makeup choices at the show didn’t disappoint either. Some models had heavily khol-lined eyes, while others had their whole faces painted blue – because the bolder, the better, right?
