Yesterday, the American Music Awards (AKA the world’s largest fan-voted awards) took place in the heart of Los Angeles. Some of the biggest names in the music business attended the event dressed to the nines, but our eyes were drawn elsewhere — to all the equally gorgeous hairstyles on display, of course.
For those of you who haven’t had a chance to see them, fret not: we’ve got all the juicy mane highlights, below.
5 looks we loved from the AMAs red carpet
1. Vanessa Hudgens’ polished lob
Let’s face it, Vanessa Hudgens‘ mane game is always on-point – and last night was certainly no exception. Wearing a blush-toned gown, the star styled her lob to polished-perfection, giving us a mix of Scarface/Pulp Fiction vibes (just minus the full bangs).
Editor’s tip: Dying to get this sleek look? You’ll need to make sure to use a shine-enhancing heat protection spray. So, we suggest you try the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray.
This will help you achieve a silky smooth, frizz-free finish while also protecting your mane against heat damage.
2. Taylor Swift’s beehive
There’s nothing wrong with dressing up as a disco ball! In fact, if you team a sparkly ensemble with a chic beehive hairstyle, you’ll make everyone want to get in on the retro hair trend. If it’s good enough for Taylor Swift…
3. Ciara’s kinky natural waves
4. Amber Heard’s French twist ponytail
Amber Heard just invented a new hairstyle that we’re already obsessed with: the French twist ponytail.
With its sexy, wet-look appearance, gold parting and loosely twisted pony, this hybrid look is guaranteed to make your hair look the part at any event.
5. Amandla Stenberg’s dookie braids
Amandla Stenberg brought some ’90s charm to the AMAs red carpet with these multi-coloured, medium dookie braids. And if you’re a naturalista still on the fence about getting them, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for.
Ahead, we look back at the best hairstyles from the 2017 AMAs.

Selena Gomez’ platinum blonde upgrade
If there’s one hair colour that’s ruled them all this season, it’s been platinum blonde (we’re looking at you Kim Kardashian West and Solange). And now, Selena Gomez has unexpectedly joined the ranks and swapped her signature sleek dark brown hair for this gorgeous shade, pictured above.
Editor’s tip: Thinking of getting this on-trend shade? We don’t blame you! But, do be sure to invest in a purple shampoo like the TIGI Bed Head Dumb Blonde Purple Toning Shampoo to keep your hue looking its best!
Lady Gaga’s disco curls
While Lady Gaga wasn’t able to physically make it to Sunday’s American Music Awards, she found a way to make her presence known by staging the red carpet herself, showing us the outfit and hairstyle she would have rocked if she was there.
Ciara’s wet-look waves
We just love Ciara’s just-out-of-the-shower look and whether you rock the look day or night, you’ll be sure to slay. Thanks for the #hairinspo, Ciara! Credit: @ciara

Gigi Hadid’s glam bouffant
Selena Gomez’ romantic ponytail
Pairing her effortless hairstyle with a red dress and nude makeup, Selena proves that you don’t need an intricate style to be worthy of the red carpet!
After creating your wavy ponytail, finish your look off with an all-over spritz of this spray to help fend off frizz and give your mane a brilliant sheen!
Idina Menzel’s Hollywood waves
What red carpet would be complete without the inclusion of this iconic, side-swept hairstyle? And after seeing countless stars rocking it (like Idina Menzel, for example!), you might feel tempted to follow suit.
But don’t fret if you don’t know how to get the look, because you just need to follow the easy steps in our Hollywood waves tutorial, and you’ll be ready to #slay!

Not one to shy away from a photo op? Then make like Hailee Steinfield and strut down the red carpet with this party-ready, curly blowout!
With a sparkly number and bright lip, this ‘do is guaranteed to have heads turning wherever you go – just the reaction we’re looking for.
Editor’s tip: The key behind this superstar blow out? The VO5 Big Volume Mousse, of course! So, to bring your curls to life, apply a golf ball-sized amount to your mane and use a round brush to create lift and fullness as you blow-dry.
Tinashe’s curly updo
Curly hair? Show off your gorgeous hair texture by fashioning it into a fail-safe topknot hairstyle. Leave a few wisps of hair to fall freely about your face, and you’ll get extra style points and exude romantic vibes, just like Tinashe has done here.
Nina Dobrev’s side braids
Can’t shake off your love for braided hairstyles? Upgrade your go-to hairstyle with some fierce side braids, for some major It–girl vibes.
