All the fabulous hairdos from Beyoncé’s Soul Train birthday party
All aboard the Soul Train!
This week, something hair-mazing happened. Queen Bey turned 35 and threw a (wait for it) Soul Train-themed birthday party! As expected, the guest list was filled to the brim with models, singers and countless other A-listers, and of course, a lot of retro hairstyles.
But don’t get down-in-the-dumps because you couldn’t snag an invitation because we’ve trawled through Instagram and put together a list of our favourite retro hairstyles from the Queen of R&B’s party. So, go on – click through our gallery, or scroll down to see which fabulous hair looks made our (and Bey’s) exclusive list.
The best looks from Beyoncé’s birthday bash
Model Joan Smalls really went all out for Beyoncé’s birthday party. Not only did she rock amazing retro curls, but she also accessorised her ‘do with a hippy-tastic embroidered flat cap – which looks very authentic, even if we do say so ourselves! Credit: @joansmalls
It seems like Kelly Rowland decided that her #hairspiration for the night would be uber disco babe, Diana Ross – and to be honest, we couldn’t agree on a better icon on which to base her look.
The former Destiny’s Child member and Beyoncé’s best pal recently took the plunge with a short bob, but for the party, she rocked a larger-than-life ’70s-inspired blow-out, which completely blew us away. Credit: @kellyrowland
While her former band members opted for big afros and dramatic curls, Michelle Williams did her best impression of the almighty Cher. The R&B gospel singer rocked super long, straight tresses with a blunt fringe. #Slay. Credit: @realmichellew
Editor’s tip: Want to recreate Michelle’s poker-straight mane? Don’t forget to prep your hair with the VO5 Heat Protect Spray to help protect your hair from your heated styling.
Is that Donna Summer or La La Anthony? Credit: Instagram.com/lalaNo Soul Train-themed party would be complete without Donna Summers, would it? At least that’s what we think La La Anthony was thinking when she stepped out with big, natural-textured hair.
She even tapped into the disco singer’s signature look by working a trapezoid-like mane and a long fringe – and we thought she looked bang on. Credit: @lala
We knew Alicia Keys wouldn’t let us down – and this Insta post with her hubby Swizz Beatz is proof that she didn’t disappoint. The couple looked like they were on their way to Woodstock, with Alicia working her natural hair with a ’70s-esque headband. Right on, we say! Credit: @therealswizz
Do these twins look familiar? Well, you might recognise Chloe x Halle from their guest appearance in Beyoncé’s Lemonade video. At Bey’s birthday bash, we loved how the R&B duo synchronised their hairstyles, wearing complementary cute ‘fros! Credit: @chloeandhalle
Just when we thought the hairstyles couldn’t get any better, costume designer June Ambrose posted an Insta pic of her full and luscious blonde afro alongside P. Diddy and Cassie’s retro flicks. We just love the celebration of all hair textures! Credit: @juneambrose
Last, but definitely not least: Jourdan Dunn. We think the Brit model drew her #hairspiration from Diane Von Furstenberg’s spring/summer 2016 show that she walked in.
But regardless of whether or not that was the case, her mane looked fabulous anyway and we here at the All Things Hair HQ have gone green with (hair) envy. Credit: @officialjdunn
