Trend alert: Neon hair could be the next big thing!
Highlighter hair, but not as you know it!
Over the past few months, our social media feeds have been inundated with colourful and creative hairstyles, from holographic hues to optical illusions. But despite all the playful looks that have come our way, we were still shocked to see neon hair (AKA highlighter hair!) take flight.
This latest colouring trend took over Coachella, and we have every reason to believe that it might just take over the Internet, too. Think back to your Sharpie pen days and then you’ll understand why this trend is so cool!
If we’ve piqued you’re interest, see this bright and beautiful trend in action, below.
Is neon hair the next big thing?
Yellow hair
When Kylie Jenner shared this dazzling pic of herself at Coachella with yellow highlighter hair, we knew were witnessing a trend in the making. This bold, head-turning colour pairs beautifully with her straight long bob, being sophisticated and fun in equal measure!
For those of you who remember last year’s Coachella festival, Kylie rocked full-blown rainbow braids that we started seeing everywhere. Needless to say, expect a lot more highlighter-inspired hairdos popping up on your Instagram feed soon! Credit: @kyliejenner
Green hair
If you’re looking for a more wearable take on this bright hair trend, just look to mega-babe Lele Pons for inspiration. As you can see from the picture above, the vlogger has had pops of neon green sprayed into the lengths of her mane – and doesn’t it look absolutely stunning?
This playful, refreshing twist on the look really is stuff festival dreams are made of! We also love how Lele’s half-up, half-down hairstyle shows off her loose curls and bright hue! Credit: @lelepons
Editor’s tips: Before you rush off to the salon to get neon hair, make sure you’ve invested in a wash and care system formulated specifically for dyed tresses, like the Dove Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner.
Orange hair
Prefer delicious citrus hues? Then prepare to fall in love with this neon-queen’s tasty orange mane. If you have fair skin, it’ll have the added benefits of brightening up your complexion, while also adding a touch of playfulness without being jarring.

Blue hair
If you thought bright, bold colours don’t pair well with afro hair, then think again. In fact, eye-catching colours – like this ladies’s electric blue hair – can work to complement and accentuate curls. Pair the look with flowers and you’ll look bloomin‘ gorgeous (get it?!). Credit: @maiaboitrago
Pink hair
If you have long, straight locks and aren’t one to shy away from a bit of candy inspiration, then this chic hot pink hue is for you. So the question is: are you ready to step into the spotlight? Credit: @elissawolfe
