Ravers alert: Glow-in-the-dark coloured hair is a trend!
What is glow-in-the-dark coloured hair?
Ok, first of all, we feel it’s our duty to tell you the truth: although the name suggests it’s a glow-in-the-dark hair colour, this isn’t completely true. The neon-like hair dye is actually UV reactive, so you’ll need UV light or blacklight to see your hair colour really gleam! Also, don’t get confused if you see it called by other names – this trend also goes by neon hair and blacklight hair. Credit: @treelocks
How does it work?
Just like several other bright hair colour trends we’ve seen this year, the colours works better on bleached hair. This is because the glow-in-the-dark dyes can easily ‘take hold’ on light coloured or stripped manes. As for the method? The colourist will simply paint the glow-in-the-dark dye on your hair in the same manner as they do other hair dyes. So don’t worry, there’s nothing complicated about it!
How long will my glow-in-the-dark coloured hair last?
If you already have pastel-coloured hair, then you’ll know the drill: you must use a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for coloured hair. This will help maintain the vibrancy of your hair hue and help it last roughly 3 weeks or so. Credit: @misheledimariadesigns
Looking for a new coloured hair shampoo? Why not try the Dove Colour Care Shampoo (£3.69*), which has been formulated with dyed tresses in mind? The formula includes Vibrant Colour Lock technology to help keep your colour vibrant for up to 8 weeks. For best results, use in conjunction with the Dove Colour Care Conditioner (£3.69*) to keep your neon locks looking vibrant for longer.
Ok, you’ve talked me into it. What now?
That’s great news! But before you go off and attempt to achieve this colour trend at home, we suggest seeking out the services of a hair colour professional, first. They can talk you through the process in more depth and help answer any questions you may have about caring for your glow-in-the-dark hair.
And, although the UV reactive hair colours themselves aren’t harmful, do bear in mind that you’ll probably have to bleach your tresses beforehand. So, before you head off to the salon, think carefully and be prepared to take extra special care of those locks! Credit: @misheledimariadesigns
