1

Spray damp hair with primer.

When curling your hair with a curling iron, prep and protect your hair for styling by using a primer such as the VO5 Express Primer.

Don’t be fooled by its size, this mighty product will work wonders at preparing your tresses for styling and help protect it from heat damage. Just liberally spray all of your hair with the primer to guard your hair.

Blow your hair.

Once you’ve evenly sprayed your hair with your primer, it’s time to blow dry your hair with your hair dryer.

Just make sure that you remember to attach your nozzle to help better direct and control the air from your dryer.

Spray hair with hairspray.

Spraying your hair with a creation hairspray before you use your curling wand will help you easily create and keep beautiful, defined curls.

To create loose curls with a curling iron, take a small section of hair, roughly 1-2 inches, and holding the can 20-30cm away, spray the TRESemmé Make Waves Creation Hairspray on your hair. Leave the section to dry for a few seconds.

Wrap your hair around the curling wand.

Once you have left the section to dry for a few seconds, wrap the section of hair (away from your face) around your curling wand. Hold the hair around the wand for a few seconds before releasing.

Editor’s tip: Cup/hold the curl gently in your hand while the hair cools. This will help the curl to ‘set’ better.

Curl the rest of your hair.

Repeat step 4, until you’ve curled all of your hair.

Comb your curls.

Now you have curled all of your hair, loosen your curls with your hands.

Want to know how to get wavy hair with a curling iron? Try taking larger sections of hair (roughly 2-3 inches) and finger comb or brush your curls until you’re happy with the look of your wonderful waves.

Spray hair with hairspray:

To really nail this curling wand tutorial, spray all of your hair to finish and fix your curls. It’ll give your curls bounce and help stop them from falling flat.

Editor’s tip: Want to know how to get beach waves with a curling iron? It’s easy. Simply follow the steps above and just substitute the final mist of hairspray with a spritz of the Toni&Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray to your mid-lengths and ends. You’ll achieve ‘just from the beach’ waves and texture in a jiffy.
