Maison Margiela’s Snapchat-inspired plait hairstyles are a work of art
Red and yellow and pink and green...
French fashion house Maison Margiela showcased their spring collection yesterday at Paris Couture Fashion Week, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Just as flamboyant as previous seasons, the collection features billowing gothic gowns, caged outerwear and even a tulle overcoat adorned with everyone’s favourite rainbow Snapchat filter (no, seriously!). Each model’s hairstyle was tailored to match each ensemble, but there was one standout style that really caught our attention. The look in question? A selection of intricate plait hairstyles with an amazing rainbow twist! Intruiged? See the multi-coloured creation for yourself, below.
Rainbow plait hairstyles at Maison Margiela
The collection was heavily influenced by creative director John Galliano‘s fascination with social media, and so the concept of ‘Snapchat filters’ flowed throughout. At the show, models hit the runway with tight cornrow braids, which were joined at the back of the head to form a single, larger three-strand plait.
Colourful rainbow thread was woven throughout the plaits for an intricate, playful twist that replicated the rainbow Snapchat filter! We reckon that this interwoven style required a very steady hand, and a lot of patience. Credit: @eugenesouleiman
In keeping with the interwoven, rainbow theme, renowned make-up artist Pat McGrath used the same rainbow thread across the face, so that the hair and make-up appeared seamless. Admittedly, you probably won’t find us getting up early before work to try and master this multi-coloured mane masterpiece, but come festival season you can be sure we’ll be giving this a go!
