Noughties boxer braids came back with a bang last year, but if you thought that this braided trend would be left behind in 2016, think again! Emily Ratajkowski (AKA our eternal #WomanCrushWednesday) recently turned up to an InStyle magazine party in New York sporting edgy boxer braids, and proved in the process that this stylish trend is here to stay. Emily Ratajkowski’s boxer braids are giving us major envy
The American actress and model paired her edgy braided hairstyle with a more casual ensemble for the A-list party. Opting for a printed slogan vest and denim ‘mom jeans’, the star jazzed up her laid-back outfit with a dramatic smoky eye.
If you ask us, Emily is living proof that boxer braids make for the perfect party hairstyle, as well as a practical, yet stylish workout ‘do.
How to get Emily Ratajkowski’s boxer braids hairstyle:
1. Preferably, you want to start this style on 2-day old hair, as your mane will be easier to braid. However, if your hair is freshly washed, we suggest using a sea salt spray like the VO5 Sea Salt Spray to help add grip.
2. Using a tail comb, divide your hair down the middle to create a neat centre parting.
3. Working on one side of your hair at a time, take a section from near the front, and divide it into 3 smaller sections. Use these to start your Dutch braid. As you continue to braid your hair, add in more strands from either side of your braid. (We recommend watching Zoella’s Dutch braid tutorial if you’re not sure how to do this!).
4. Once your boxer braid is complete, use a clear elastic to secure it in place, and then repeat the braiding process on the other side.
