Since staircases are the bane of many of our lives, we bet that you’ve never thought of channelling them into your hair, right? Neither did we until we spotted Chinese staircase braids (AKA ladder braids) all over Instagram.
This quirky weaving technique is inspired by the look of staircases (hence its name) and is the perfect hairstyle to rock when you can’t find your hairbands. And trust us, when you get a glimpse of the examples we’ve come across, you’ll won’t be able to look away.
Chinese staircase braids: The latest trend we can’t get enough of
Now, most of you are probably thinking that this seems like an impossible braiding technique to do without a stylist on hand, right? Well, it actually couldn’t be simpler!
All it takes to weave a wonderful Chinese staircase braid, is to pull your strands into a ponytail, section a small piece of hair from the side and split it into 2. Then take the ends of these piece of hair and wrap it around your ponytail and pull it through the gap of your 2 sections.
This will create your first “step” of your Chinese staircase. Now repeat this step all long your pony until you have created your desired number of steps and secure with a bobby pin. Credit: @just_veronicas
Don’t be fooled into thinking this braided hairstyle is all about being prim and proper, as it works just as well on messy hair!
