Ooh la la!

French women seem to have a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to beauty. We already look to them as a source of skincare, make-up, and style inspiration, so really it was only a matter of time before we started to emulate their hair, too! Stars like Felicity Jones and Rosamund Pike have already embraced the French bob hair trend and we’ve got a sneaky suspicion it’s going to be massive for 2017.

But what makes a French bob different to any other bob? Well, the term specifically describes a chin-length style with a fringe, reminiscent of 1920s Gatsby-esque flapper hairstyles. So, if you’re ready to add a little French flair into your hair, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite takes on the style from Instagram, below.

French bob hair looks we’re loving

Blessed with natural curls? Well, you’re in luck, because the French bob looks incredible on curly tresses, creating an effortless, bedhead vibe! Honestly, have you ever seen such a stunning, nonchalant look? Credit: @janusch.ka

Editor’s tip: To keep your curls looking natural, yet under control, scrunch a handful of the VO5 Curl Defining Mousse throughout your locks to enhance your curls and fend off any unwanted frizz.

Equally, this style is great for adding shape and body to poker straight locks, too! The jaw-skimming length eliminates any chance of your hair weighing you down, plus it’s great for accentuating petite facial features. It’s sweet, delicate, and our new hair obsession. Credit: @karrorros

Editor’s tips: If your mane is especially fine, don’t panic: you can still rock a French bob, simply by using a sea salt spray to add texture. We recommend the Toni&Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray, as it adds plenty of lift at the roots, without leaving your hair feeling crispy.

It’s a myth that having shorter strands limits your styling options. In fact, if you find that your curls fall flat after an hour (we share your frustration!), this style could be the answer to all your problems. The shorter length means your hair will feel virtually weightless, allowing you to hold a style for much longer. Credit: @_ren_isa_

Editor’s tip: For a look that last all day long, up the ante even more by using a firm hold hairspray, like the TRESemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray

The only real rules to this style are the fringe and the length, so there’s nothing stopping you making the trend your own by experimenting with fun colours! We love this Instagrammer’s violet hue, with her seriously bold brows adding an edgy touch to her soft bangs. Credit: @salsalhair

So, what do you think of the French bob hair trend? If you’ll always be a long hair kind of girl, you’ll love our recent take on the Rapunzel length locks, that celebs like J-Lo have been rocking. Take a look, now!
