Erykah Badu’s micro braids

There’s no way we could exclude Erykah Badu’s mane from our line up of top hairstyles, especially since she was the host of the Soul Train Awards 2016 event! The singer continued to rock her long, Rapunzel-like micro braids on the stage, giving us all major #braidgoals.

Brandy’s big hair!

Okay, can we all just take a second to sit back and appreciate Brandy’s amazing twists and curls combo? Not only is this a super fierce hairstyle, but it’s also a protective one, too. With the accessorised twists at the front, and hyper-volumised curls at the back, this ‘do is nothing short of astounding!

And rocking such award-winning hair, it’s no wonder that Brandy was given the accolade for Lady of Soul at this year’s event. Bravo Brandy, bravo!

Jill Scott’s flower crown

What better way to dress up your TWA (AKA teeny weenie afro) than to rock a crown made of pretty flowers? Jill Scott has given us serious award ceremony #hairspiration, by taking her cute natural hair to the next level with a white halo of delicate blooms. The end result: a look that’s super pretty, yet probably cost her next to nothing! Now that’s what we call smart styling.

V. Bozeman’s ‘no-hair’ hair

Who knew that having no hair could look so cool? Well, apparently V. Bozeman did, because she was rocking the look like there’s no tomorrow! We simply love the boldness of this ‘no-hair’ hairstyle, because of how surprisingly chic and elegant it is. But be warned: this isn’t a style for the faint hearted, so think twice before you shave all your hair off.

Editor’s tip: If you’re looking to make the most out of your natural mane, prep it using the LOC, LOCO or LCO method (which stand for liquid, oil and cream). For the liquid section, try a leave-in conditioner spray, like the Tresemmé Botanique Nourish & Replenish Hydrating Mist, as this lightweight spray helps to conditions and detangle your mane. As for the hair oil and cream parts of your hair care routine, we love the Dove Advanced hair Series Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment and the Dove Advanced hair Series Quench Absolute Crème Serum
