What you’ll need
Dry shampoos have become a girl’s best friend, period. They help to revive greasy hair, add volume to limp locks, prolong blow-dries, and basically mean that you can skip washing your hair for a day or two. But with so many different types on the market, it can be hard to find the best dry shampoo for you.
Well, worry not: because we’ve done the hard part for you, trialling a number of dry shampoos across our editors’ very different hair types. After putting several to the test, we’ve whittled the selection down to this round-up of hero favourites. Read on to find out which ones you need to try!
The best dry shampoo: Our picks
1. TIGI Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! Dry Shampoo (£14.50*)
Emily, Global Chief Editor: I’m not afraid to admit it – I’m a dry shampoo devotee. I’ve tried my fair share, but right now I’m especially taken with the TIGI Bed Head Oh Bee Hive! Dry Shampoo – it sprays finely onto hair without weighing it down, which my heavy head of hair is grateful for. Crucially for me, as many blondes will attest, it doesn’t leave the dreaded dull grey tell-tale signs that many dry shampoos can impart. And it successfully absorbs oils even from my 3-day-old hair for a refreshed look – a lazy girl’s dream!
2. TRESemmé Instant Refresh Translucent Dry Shampoo (£3.99*)
Ink, Chief Editor UK: I have very dark hair and find that most dry shampoos leave my hair looking a little dusty afterwards – but not the TRESemmé Instant Refresh Translucent Dry Shampoo. It smells gorgeous, feels weightless, and leaves no white residue on my roots, thanks to the translucent formula. Plus, I’ve found that even though it helps makes my hair look cleaner, it doesn’t strip it of its natural sheen. It’s a win-win, really!
3. Alberto Balsam Clear & Fresh Dry Shampoo (£2.99*)
Jeanette, Beauty Editor: I must admit, I was initially sceptical of using dry shampoo in my afro curls. But after trying the Alberto Balsam Clear & Fresh Dry Shampoo, I found that it really helped to absorb oil and sweat during my workouts. I recommend lightly spritzing your roots and ‘fro pre-workout for fresher-looking, cool gym hair. Plus, I’ll let you in on a little secret: as this dry shampoo has a refreshing citrus scent, I’ve also been using it as a cost-effective alternative to hair perfume!
4. TRESemmé Instant Refresh Cleansing Dry Shampoo (£3.99*)
Arianna, Junior Beauty Editor: I have quite naturally oily, frizzy hair, so I wasn’t sure how this dry shampoo would hold up in our test. To apply, I sprayed the TRESemmé Instant Refresh Cleansing Dry Shampoo in bursts onto my roots, and then massaged it in with my fingers. Surprisingly, it absorbed a lot of the oil and gave me extra volume, which lasted for around 5 hours – I wasn’t expecting that! My day three hair ended up looking freshly washed and revitalised. I’m a fan!
5. VO5 Refresh Me Quick Dry Shampoo (£2.99*)
Amra, Editorial Assistant: Although I’m not a dedicated dry shampoo user, I’ve fallen in love with this VO5 Refresh Me Quick Dry Shampoo hair saviour, which I use before I hit the gym. Since my hair is especially prone to dryness, I tend not to wash it very much. So using this dry shampoo in between washes is a great hair pick-me-up. Plus, as an avid lover of all things green tea, the delicious scent is a bonus!
