Hot air? Don’t care with Zoella’s summer hair tips.

During the summer, regular exposure to sun, seawater and chlorine can really take its toll on your hair. That’s why throughout these hot months, it’s even more crucial to give your tresses a bit of extra love and crack down on your hair care routine.

There is a lot you can do to keep your mane looking smooth and silky, even during the hottest months of the year – a time when your hair is prone to losing a lot of moisture. Beauty vlogger Zoella – whose sleek hair is giving us major envy – is on hand to run you through her top tips for keeping your hair looking and feeling its best.

Zoella’s top hair care tips for summer

Tip 1: Replenish lost moisture

To help keep your hair nourished, ensure that you’re using an intensive moisturising shampoo and conditioner to replenish any moisture that your hair may have lost. Zoella suggests using both the VO5 Give Me Moisture Shampo (£3.99*) and Conditioner (£3.99*) to help quench dry strands. This simple tip will help you achieve glossy, soft hair even during the dry summer months.

Tip 2: Indulge in a hot oil treatment

During the summer, it’s especially important to indulge in hair treatments to help boost the health and vitality of your locks. Zoella recommends adding a hot oil treatment to your hair care routine, like the VO5 Nourish My Shine Hot Oils (£4.28*), which helps to make tresses feel silkier.

Hot oils are also fantastic at helping to remove chlorine from your hair, making them the perfect hair treatment to pack for your holiday abroad. Plus, although they’re potent, they’re super small in size, meaning that they won’t take up any room in your suitcase! (Find out the other reasons why hot oil treatments are amazing for your hair here.)

To use this pre-shampoo treatment, heat the oil in a mug of hot water or run it under the shower. Once heated, snap off the cap and apply the hot oil to your tresses. Take some time to massage it in whilst focusing most of the oil on your ends, otherwise you’ll end up with a greasy-looking scalp. Leave the product on for up to a minute (that’s all it needs to work its magic!) and then rinse your hair thoroughly. Finally, simply shampoo and condition as normal to finish.

Tip 3: Treat your hair to a mask

As well as using a hot oil treatment, it’s good to incorporate a restoring mask into your hair care routine during the summer, especially if you have coloured hair. To help repair any sun-damaged strands, opt for an intensive mask, like the Dove Intensive Repair Treatment Mask (£4.59*). If used regularly, this creamy mask will help to leave your hair up to 10x more resilient against everyday damage.**

As well as helping to strengthen your hair, a treatment mask will also aid in keeping your colour looking vibrant for longer, as moisturised locks hold dye better.

Throughout the summer, you can alternate between both hot oil treatments and hair masks to help hydrate your hair. Just be sure to leave at least 2-3 days between each one. Healthy-looking hair, here you come!
