Florence Given with natural blonde long hair styled into bouncy '70s curls

How to Get Florence Given’s ’70s Curls

UK-based artist and feminist, Florence Given, is on our hair radar.

So, who is London-based artist Florence Given? You’re most likely to have seen her empowering feminist tops and illustrations on Instagram. She has fronted campaigns for Tinder, been named Cosmopolitan’s Influencer of the Year and designed merchandise for Rita Ora. Impressive, right?

Besides supporting her on-going mission to amplify the voices of women, we can’t help also be inspired by her love for the ’70s. Her gorgeous blonde, bouncy curls are a modern take on Farrah Fawcett’s signature ‘do — and we’re obsessed.

If you’re crushing on Florence as much as we are and fancy getting her hair, just follow our easy step-by-step tutorial, below.

Step 1: Apply heat protect

To get Florence Given’s signature look, you’ll need to use a curling tong  (preferably one with a big barrel!) on your dry hair. So, we advise you to prep your hair with a heat protectant to avoid damage.

TRESemmé Defence Spray Front

Editor’s tip: The TRESemmé Heat Defence Spray contains a heat activated complex that works to protect your strands against heat damage and prevents hair from becoming brittle and dull.

Step 2: Part your hair down the middle

A staple of any ’70s hairstyle is a middle part, so before you begin curling your strands, part your hair roughly down the middle. This will help your emulate Florence’s.

Step 3: Curl the front layers of your hair

Using your fingers, start taking small sections from the front layers of your hair. Then, twist your hair around the curling tong, away from your face, and hold for 5-10 seconds before releasing.

For the full Florence effect, follow the exact same process. Otherwise, you can keep things subtle and just have your front layers curled.

Step 5: Use a tail comb to soften your curls

After you’ve finished creating big, voluminous curls, use a tail comb to gently soften them.

Step 5: Set the look

Now you’ve got your powerful ’70s look, secure it in place with a flexible hold hairspray and get ready to #slay the day.

Editor’s tip: The VO5 Flexible Hold Hairspray is one of our favourite hairsprays, as it is ultra-fine, fast drying and perfect for keeping natural movement in your hair.
