By the looks of it, the Korean wave isn’t about to go anywhere. The trend—whether fashion, beauty, or anything else, really, has been spreading like wildfire, taking not only Asia, but the rest of the world by storm. Now, aside from fashion, what really makes K-pop style stand out is the way they wear their hair. The unique, flamboyant styles you see in music videos and K-dramas have got to be some of the most interesting ‘dos we’ve seen! Some of them are completely out-of-this-world (which we’ll probably leave to the young ones); but there are really cute hairstyles that even the less adventurous (but stylish) ones can steal—like this K-style topknot with upside down braid. It’s a really fun hairstyle that features a surprising twist at the back!
In this video below, Janeena Chan takes on the All Things Hair Do This ‘Do Challenge and creates this fun, fabulous updo. Hit play, have fun, and learn how to do it yourself!
How to Create Janeena Chan’s K-Style Topknot
Prep your hair
After washing your hair with shampoo, use Cream Silk Color Protect Conditioner. A very distinct characteristic of a K-pop hairstyle is their vibrant colored tresses, and to keep yours radiant, you have to protect it with products that are specifically designed for colored hair.

Start braiding
Braid your hair upward, starting from the base of your nape and working your way to the crown.

Create a top knot
Tie the rest of your hair into a high ponytail and twist upwards to create a topknot. Secure the bun with bobby pins.

Set with hairspray
Make sure your updo stays in place with TRESemmé Salon Finish Extra Hold Hairspray.

Cute, right? Now that Janeena Chan has shown you how to work this ‘do, you can go and try this hairstyle yourself and give your topknot a quick, K-wave upgrade!
