Holiday hairstyles: How to make them last through the night

Tried and tested tips to keeping your fab hairstyle in place while you party the night away!

Ever styled your hair for a party and two hours in, it’s like all that action in front of the mirror never happened? Sleek straight hair’s back to the puffy, frizzy mop it was; bouncy, luscious curls are limp and flat, and updos are no longer up. Sure, you’ve got the perfect party hair down pat, but creating the hairstyle is only half the story—you gotta make it last, too. That part is actually trickier—it takes the right tools, the right products, and the right strategies to keep your hair looking as fab as when you first stepped out of the house.

Since the season of Christmas parties is here, we know you’ll be styling your hair a lot (if you’re stuck for ideas, we’ve got a bunch of holiday hair tutorials over here). So how about we create hairstyles that last longer than the 12 days of Christmas? LOL okay, that’s kinda scary, we’re sure you don’t want a semi-permanent chignon, but you get what we mean. Check out our tips to making sure your style holds up through the night!

How to make your hair hold its style longer

1. Don’t wash your hair

Second-day hair holds styles better, especially curls and waves. Since unwashed locks are not as slippery as freshly washed hair, your hairstyle, including updos, won’t keep sliding down.

2. Make sure hair’s 100% dry before you start straightening it

If you’re going for a sleek, straight hairstyle, start by blow drying your hair and making sure you’ve gotten rid of all the moisture before you iron and step out into a hot, humid weather. When it’s completely dry, let it cool before touching it again for further styling. This will keep your hair cuticles flat so the moisture won’t sneak its way back in, causing your hair to get frizzy again. Iron hair section by section. When done, apply TONI&GUY High Shine Serum Drops or Cream Silk Standout Straight Leave-on Cream to seal in the style and keep frizz at bay.

3. Use the right products

To make your curls last longer, apply just the right amount of hair mousse (we recommend  TONI&GUY Volume Plumping Mousse) to your hair before blow drying it. Or you can spray your hair with hairspray that has a good hold, like TONI&GUY Body Amplify Creation Hairspray, before, during, and after curling. This will give your hair extra texture that will help prolong the lifespan of your curls.

4. Use dry shampoo

Feel like your hair is starting to fall flat? Excuse yourself to the bathroom and apply dry shampoo to your roots (TONI&GUY Sky High Volume Dry Shampoo is a great choice). You can also tease your hair a bit at the crown. It’s a quick fix for a hairstyle that’s starting to loose height and volume.

5. Hands off

Try to keep your hands off your hair. Frequently touching it would make your strands absorb the oil from your hands. Grease and moisture are not exactly hairstyle-friendly so you don’t want them making their way back into your tresses.
