When it comes to style, photographer Shaira Luna has built a name for herself.

What’s your secret hair care routine?

“Well, I’m not very picky. I just make sure I wash my hair everyday. Sometimes, I even use baby shampoo. Whatever’s just really mild so it doesn’t irritate my scalp.”

Is there one hair product you cannot ever live without?

“Hmmm, well I think [it would be] dry shampoo. I’m always on the go and I really like keeping my hair fresh and clean, so I really like how convenient dry shampoo is.”

Do you have a go-to hairstyle?

“My hair’s usually just down. My hair is really fine and straight. I’ve learned over the years that the best way to maintain it is to really not do anything with it. So I just let it down as is.”

I’ve noticed you’ve always kept your bangs.

“I’ve had my bangs since I was two years old. I had a phase for three years where I took it out. But it felt like it wasn’t me, so I just cut them back again and I’ve just had this look ever since.”

So it’s your signature look.

“It is!”

On a bad hair day, what do you do?

“I love wearing beanies—if it’s cold, of course. On a bad hair day, I usually put it up in a bun. I mean, I don’t have bad hair days unless my bangs have a bad hair day. So as long as the bangs are kept under control, then everything is okay.”

So how do you maintain your bangs?

“I really cut them from the crown of my head. I cut my own hair, so I make sure that it’s thick enough [that] it won’t fly away. I cut it every three weeks just to maintain the volume.”

Do you iron it?

“No, not at all. I leave my hair totally alone.”

What’s your hair advice to other girls?

“Give it some rest. And keep it out of the sun ’cause it really fries your hair. I think the less products you use, sometimes the better. I think prevention is always better than a remedy.”
