DIY Hair Mask Treatments You Must Try at Home

No hair mask? No problem! Make a DIY hair mask right in the comfort of your own home.

Hair mask treatments don’t need to be costly. In fact, you can make a DIY hair mask at home! Don’t worry, you don’t need fancy ingredients to whip one up. You can simply check your kitchen or refrigerator for some ingredients that you may already have like avocado, honey, or mayonnaise, and you’re all set!

One good thing about creating a DIY hair mask is that your hair gets to soak up nutrients from natural sources. For one, avocado helps nourish and moisturize your hair because it is rich in natural oils and good fats. Meanwhile, mayonnaise can help remove product buildup on your scalp because of its vinegar content.

How to Make a DIY Avocado Hair Mask

This DIY avocado hair mask is one of the most common home remedies for dry hair. And because avocados are also rich in biotin, an avocado mask can help stimulate hair growth, too.

What You Need:

  • 2 tablespoons of avocado
  • 2 tablespoons of egg yolk
  • ½ cup raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

1. Mix and whisk

Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them together until they are blended well. You can also use a blender to speed up the process.

2. Heat it up

The DIY hair mask can be absorbed better if it is warm. You can heat it up a little bit in the microwave for about two minutes. Make sure to try a little amount of the mix on your skin to avoid getting burned.

3. Apply the DIY mask

Wet your hair, then apply the mask on your damp hair. Make sure that the mask is evenly distributed from roots to tips. Massage your scalp for better absorption and blood circulation. Then, leave the mask on your hair for 20 minutes. You can also cover your hair with a shower cap.

4. Rinse and let dry

Rinse your hair thoroughly and make sure that no avocado mask residue is left on your hair. Then, let your hair dry naturally.

How to Make DIY Mayonnaise Hair Mask

Aside from removing product buildup, this DIY hair mask can help calm frizz and improve the appearance of dull and rough hair. If you have curly or wavy hair, you can benefit from a weekly mayonnaise hair treatment, as the oil from the mayonnaise can coat your strands and keep them from drying out.

  • 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of oil

1. Mix the ingredients

3. Cover your hair

Using a hot towel, wrap your hair for 30 minutes to help it absorb the hair mask. While waiting, you can go back to your laundry or finish reading your book.

4. Rinse

Rinse your hair with warm water as this helps remove the mask more thoroughly. It would also be better to use a microfiber towel because it caused less friction on your hair. Then, don’t forget to just let your hair dry naturally.
