7 Tips to Make Brittle Hair Stronger

Fortify your strands with these tips and product recommendations.

If you often experience hair fall, you might have brittle hair. This may also manifest as dry and rough strands that break easily even with slight pulling or tugging. If not addressed from the get-go, brittle hair can get more and more damaged as you brush and style it daily.

But don’t worry! There are ways to strengthen your hair and prevent breakage and hair fall. Here are some simple tips.

How to Treat and Prevent Brittle Hair

1. Pamper your hair with a strengthening treatment.

Use a deep conditioning treatment that’s designed to treat hair fall. Try Cream Silk Triple Keratin Rescue Ultimate Hair Fall Defiance Treatment Shot. It has 10 times more strengthening actives that make your hair up to 10 times stronger. It protects your hair from extreme factors that cause hair fall and breakage, like frequent heat-styling and chemical treatments.

This hair treatment is also easy to use. After shampooing and conditioning, simply massage the treatment shot through your hair. Leave it on for one minute, then rinse well. For best results, use it once to twice a week.

2. Condition your hair every day.

Contrary to popular belief, conditioners do not necessarily cause hair fall. In fact, they help prevent it by bringing back moisture to your hair. Conditioners coat your strands to allow them to slip off each other and be more aligned. The result? You get hair that’s smoother, more manageable, and less prone to hair fall. On the other hand, when you skip conditioning your hair, it becomes dry and more prone to tangles, breakage, and damage.

For brittle hair, we recommend Cream Silk Triple Keratin Rescue Ultimate Hair Fall Defiance Ultra Conditioner. Its revolutionary fiber actives penetrate up to a cellular level to make your hair stronger and prevent breakage. This conditioner also gives your hair three benefits of keratin in one amazing product. It has keratin relaxers that tame frizz, keratin serum that revives your hair from intense damage, and keratin essence that helps in strengthening your hair.

3. Go easy on towel-drying.

Rubbing your hair with a towel to remove excess water is a no-no. The friction between your towel and your hair can cause split ends and breakage, resulting in weak and damaged hair. Instead of rubbing, gently squeeze out water from your hair after washing it. Then, pat your hair dry using a soft towel or an old t-shirt with a smooth fabric.

4. Avoid overexposure to the sun.

Excessive sun exposure is harmful not just to your skin but also to your hair. A study published in the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology shows that radiation from a mercury lamp, which mimics radiation from the sun, coupled with washing and shampooing damages the hair cuticle and its inner layers. This leads to dry, rough, and brittle hair that’s prone to split ends.

Protect your hair from the sun’s rays by wearing a hat or a bandana or by using an umbrella when going out. Avoid the outdoors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when the sunlight is at its harshest.

5. Avoid sleeping with wet hair.

No, it won’t mess with your sanity or make you blind. However, sleeping with wet hair can damage your strands. Hair is at its weakest when wet, and according to a review article in the International Journal of Trichology, water absorption makes the hair shaft swell. Combine this swelling with the friction between your strands and pillow, and you’ll end up with a damaged hair shaft. This makes your hair prone to frizz, tangles, and breakage.

If you love night showers, take them earlier in the evening to give your hair enough time to dry before going to bed.

6. Maintain a balanced diet.

A healthy diet is good not just for your body but also for your hair. Eating protein-rich foods like fish, eggs, and lean meats can help give you stronger, healthy-looking hair. Likewise, foods that are rich in vitamin B7 or biotin like nuts, salmon, avocados, and sweet potatoes help in promoting the growth of healthy hair, so make sure to include these in your diet.

7. Consult a doctor.
